Heat the oil in a large heavy based pan and when hot add the onions. Cook over a moderate heat until soft, then increase the heat and add the chopped beef, stirring for a few minutes until browned.
Reduce the heat and add the oregano, cinnamon and dark brown molasses sugar. Cut open the chili and remove the seeds under running water, then chop finely. Add to the pan with the kidney beans and tomatoes. Stir in the chocolate. Season well with salt, cover and simmer gently for 1 hour, stirring from time to time to avoid the mixture sticking to the bottom of the pan. Serve with boiled rice or a fresh green salad and crusty bread. |
