Preheat the oven to 300 degrees F.
Shred the cabbage leaves finely – you can do this in a food processor.
Layer the cabbage, onions and apples, in a greased ovenproof dish or casserole, sprinkling each layer with the garlic, spices and molasses sugar.
Mix the wine vinegar with the lemon juice and pour over the contents of the dish. Dot with the butter and cover tightly.
Cook for 2-2.5 hours, stirring once during the cooking time.
Serve with roast meats, game, sausages, casserole or nut roast. |
