Happy Baking Season!

A time to give thanks ....

For so many of us, Thanksgiving is one of the year's most enjoyable celebrations.  Days are rich with family and friends, and tables across the country are filled with delicious favorites made, of course, with the finest ingredients and extra portions of TLC.  With each year, new traditions complement the old...

In our kitchen this year, we're adding Winter Fruit and Nut Crumble to the day's menu--a warm, crunchy mix of the season's freshest fruit and nuts (the non-alcoholic version is a wonderful way to begin the day). Tummies will be warmed with Pumpkin Soup, carrying hints of far-away places in each wisp of steam. And at days end, we'll have pumpkin pie and Spiced Pears, peppery and bright, these are delightful and light. (All pictured above.)

With each recipe here (and the hundreds more in our Recipe Library), we send a very special thank you. You see, it is your support of Fair Trade Certified products that has made an unprecedented difference in the lives of so many families in Paraguay, Costa Rica and Malawi. We share our deep thanks and brightest wishes for a lovely holiday with your family and friends.

 Where in the World ?

Helpful Hint:  It is in North America, in a region noted for volcanic activity, fresh seafood and great wines.

You never know where in the world you’ll find Wholesome Sweeteners products—or people who love them.

Do you know the name of this mountain, whose snowy peaks were admired by Keith Jackson wearing a Wholesome Sweeteners "Are You Certifiable?" t-shirt last SUMMER?

Tell us by November 22, 2006. We’ll select the winner at random from correct entries. If selected, you'll receive a special Wholesome Sweeteners Holiday Gift of sugars, syrups and nectars just in time for December baking—plus a rare and wonderful Wholesome Sweeteners “Are You Certifiable?” Fair Trade t-shirt or Fair Trade Cap. Four runners-up will receive Wholesome Sweeteners Fair Trade sugars and molasses. (No purchase necessary. Enter as often as you like. One gift per family, please.)

Entries to Info@WholesomeSweeteners.com and write “Where in the World” (or “I know! I know!”) in the email subject line. In the body of the email, please tell us the mountain’s name and general location, as well as your name, phone number and t-shirt size. We'll let everyone know "Where in the World" this is in the next issue of The Sugar Club.

From the Fair Trade Front

Big Ideas in Small Packets:

Partners join to share the "good word" about Fair Trade

As awareness builds across the country about the social benefits of Fair Trade, the environmental and health benefits of organic foods, partnerships are bringing like-minded corporate leaders with very diverse products and projects together.

This fall, Wholesome Sweeteners and Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, based in Vermont, co-branded Fair Trade sugar packets. Green Mountain is widely recognized for their delicious coffees and a steadfast commitment to environmental and social stewardship.

Wholesome Sweeteners has also joined Executive Pastry Chef Gale Gand of Tru Chicago (renowned restauranteur and dessert goddess), and her partner, Rick Tramonto, to design their new custom Fair Trade Certified sugar packets for three of their new Chicago area restaurants, Gale's Coffee Bar, Tramonto’s and Osteria di Tramonto.

And an ever-increasing number of coffee shops, tea houses, cafes and delis are also shifting focus to consumer goods that advocate a bigger picture. Wholesome Sweeteners Fair Trade Organic and Raw Cane Sugars packets are also now available in, among other places, Java House in Iowa City, IA, Organics to Go in on the West Coast, Mother's Market & Kitchen in Southern California, New Leaf Markets in California's Monterey Bay area, Market of Choice in Oregon ...

If you use Green Mountain coffees, visit any of the Gand/Tremonto restaurants in Chicago, or drop into any of the cafes and delis carrying Fair Trade Certified sugar packets, please thank them, won’t you, for their commitment to the bigger Fair Trade picture?

Every spoonful of Fair Trade sugar really does make the world a sweeter place.
