Searching for the perfect peach
We take it seriously! It's summer and the fruit bins at local farmers markets are overflowing with sweet morsels. For many of us, there is nothing quite so summery as a peach's natural sweetness, and our mission to find the perfect fresh peach is one of August's highlights.
Once you find the perfect peach (hopefully you'll have a whole bushel full), you might just eat it fresh, in ice cream, sliced in iced tea, and in innumerable cakes and, of course, Peach Cobbler. But sometimes a simple recipe is just right. Sprinkle a halved peach with Wholesome's Fair Trade Organic Light Brown Sugar or Dark Brown Sugar and put it on the grill. Make it even crunchier by adding Billington's Demerara or Organic Turbinado. Our favorite Peach Crisp couldn't be easier, or tastier. It's a great way to use just-ripe (or even a little past ripe) late-summer peaches.
Enjoy!

Points to ponder....
A peach is a cousin to the rose.
Skin like peaches and cream... A peach's sweet juice makes such a wonderful moisturizer that it's used in many cosmetics.
A peach has almost 20% of the recommended daily value of Vitamin C and 11% of Vitamin A, it also has B Vitamins as well as Potassium, Copper and Manganese.
Peaches were first cultivated in China more than 5,000 years ago, but came to the New World from Italy and Spain with the early explorers.
Peaches are the America's second largest commercial fruit crop (after apples). In our opinion, the best peaches are locally grown and eaten fresh from the tree.
Peaches have a GI of just 28, so they digest slowly and gently, and like Organic Blue Agave nectar, won't spike your blood sugar.
As for a peach's sweetness, well, we think it's the perfect balm for a hot summer's day.
Foodie Hint: As fresh peach season comes to a close, begin thinking about canning or freezing peaches (there are many resources on line) for fall or winter days when a bite or two of summer's sweetness is just the right comfort food.

Those luscious leafy greens, full ripe tomatoes, crisp cucumbers and sweet juicy onions filling farmers markets stands and local grocers produce aisles this time of year have put us in a mood for salads. An overflowing green salad may be the closest we get to eating primordial food... after all, earth-bound creatures have been eating leaves for thousands of years. In celebration of all those bright colors, their nutritional benefits and this seasonal bounty, we offer a few salad tips:
Best of all, dress it lightly--salad dressing should enhance the flavors of all those goodies, not drown them! We suggest Blue Agave Balsamic Vinaigrette or Light Lemon Vinaigrette. Light vinaigrettes help bring all of nature's fresh flavors to life--and these recipes, with a touch of agave or sugar will work wonders for your already wonderful salad! |

This quarter Wholesome Sweeteners marked a significant milestone: your support of our Fair Trade Certified sugars has translated into more than $500,000 paid to the Fair Trade farm cooperatives in Costa Rica, Malawi and Paraguay. Because Fair Trade cooperative members directly receive a premium price for their products and labor, a whole new realm of possibilities are opening up for the co-op members and their families. Hospitals and schools are being built and staffed, teachers and doctors have the supplies they need, communication systems are improving and communities are becoming healthier and more stable.
Thanks to YOU, Fair Trade really does work. We encourage you to support it wherever possible.

We're pleased to announce that Wholesome Sweeteners Organic Blue Agave won the NASFT's award for Organic Food Innovation. Although all of Wholesome Sweeteners products created their own special buzz at the one of the gourmet food industry's favorite shows, our 100% pure Organic Blue Agave nectar was heralded as one of the most innovative organic products in the market. The award was presented last July during the NASFT's Fancy Foods Show in New York City,
